What is Chiropractic
The World Health Organisation (WHO) defines chiropractic as ‘A health care profession concerned with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disorders of the neuro-musculoskeletal system and these effects of theses disorders on general health. There is an emphasis on manual techniques.’
The Australian Chiropractic Association states ‘that Chiropractors focus on the detection and correction of abnormal spinal function and its subsequent effect on how the nervous system controls and coordinates the body.’
Chiropractors are not only trained to treat musculoskeletal pain, they are also trained to facilitate health promotion and lifestyle advice, rehabilitation and patient education.
An underlying principal of Chiropractic is “healthy spine, healthier life”. By offering drug free spinal healthcare and lifestyle advice, chiropractors help their patients lead and maintain healthy lives.
How is my Chiropractor educated?
Chiropractors are highly qualified healthcare professionals who complete a five year university degree.
They are required to be registered to practice with the Chiropractors Board of Australia, which is a part of AHPRA (Australian Health Professionals Registration Board).
Do I need a referral from my GP?
It is NOT necessary for you to have a referral from your GP to see your Chiropractor.
Do I need X-rays?
X-rays or scans may be required, particularly if there was been trauma or your condition is long standing. The clinical necessity of imaging will be discussed with you if necessary.
Do Chiropractors prescribe medication?
No, Chiropractic is a drug free modality.
Can a Chiropractor co manage patients with other health professionals?
Many of our patients also see a massage therapist or physio to complement the care they receive from us. Although you don’t need a referral from your GP, we have GPs refer patients to us regularly.
We are happy to be part of your health care team to provide the best benefit to you the patient.
